The Evergreen Extension is an 11-kilometre extension to the existing SkyTrain system in Metro Vancouver. The Evergreen Extension was completed and in service in late 2016. During the project planning phase, Kirk & Co. designed and implemented a multi-stage public consultation program, developing all public consultation and information materials, and facilitating stakeholder meetings and open houses for the Preliminary Design and Station Area Design consultations in Coquitlam, Port Moody and Burnaby.
Once the project was in the construction phase, Kirk & Co. designed and implemented a comprehensive community relations and construction communications program, to ensure local residents, businesses and the travelling public had access to timely and accurate information. Community relations activities included staffing a community relations office, meeting with community organizations and local residents, and implementing a business liaison program to provide a forum to discuss upcoming work with local business owners. Communications tools included community information meetings, regular construction and traffic notifications, community updates and information sheets, a website, and a Facebook page with construction pictures and videos demonstrating Evergreen Line construction and progress.

Background
The 11-kilometre Evergreen Extension provides frequent and convenient SkyTrain service, connecting Coquitlam City Centre through Port Moody to Lougheed Town Centre in about 15 minutes. With seven stations that include bus connections, parking (Moody Centre, Coquitlam Central and Lafarge Lake-Douglas stations) and bicycle facilities, it is a significant new link to Metro Vancouver’s SkyTrain system.
With the opening of the Evergreen Extension on December 2, 2016, Metro Vancouver now has the longest, fully-automated, driverless, rapid-transit system in the world.
