Gitxaala First Nation

Member Communications and Consultation

Planning and Implementation of Member Consultation Program

The Gitxaala Nation Governing Council is in the process of developing a Trust Agreement. The agreement describes how funds from Impact Benefit Agreements (IBAs) with companies wanting to do business in Gitxaala territory can be used and protected for future generations of Gitxaala people.

Kirk & Co. worked with members of Governing Council to develop and implement a member consultation program regarding the purposes of the trust agreement. This included: developing a discussion guide and survey, available online and in hard-copy, notifying members of consultation opportunities, coordinating member meetings in Kitkatla, Prince Rupert, Vancouver and Prince George and reporting on feedback received.

Project Background

The Gitxaala Nation is a First Nation located at Kitkatla on Dolphin Island on the North Coast of British Columbia, approximately 45 km from the city of Prince Rupert.
